Application deadline : April 30th for arrival in September, September 30th for arrival in January. Late applications may be accepted, depending on availability and visa processing times.

 

Requirements : Students must be interviewed in their home country before being accepted on the program. Two years of Spanish study (minimum B grade average during the last two years) and good academic results (grades equivalent to C and higher during the last three years of study) are required.

SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Ecuador has a lot to offer to international students who wish to improve their Spanish skills. The

smallest country in the Andean highlands offers a great combination of welcoming people, well preserved colonial architecture, beautiful volcanic landscapes, dense rainforest and magnificent shores of the Galapagos Islands. Students are mainly placed in private schools and live with local Ecuadorian host families. The Ecuadorian culture is extremely family oriented and students have the benefit of becoming a part of an Ecuadorian family, during their stay in the country and beyond. International students are generally placed in co-ed schools; some singlesex schools are available. They are placed all across Ecuador, but mainly in the Quito area. The local coordinator organizes monthly activities to allow international students to discover the country!

 

SCHOOL SYSTEM

The first three-year cycle of an Ecuadorian secondary school follows a general curriculum. In the second cycle, students can specialize in one of several different curriculums. Exchange students usually choose Liberal Arts that include these subjects: Literature, English, Philosophy, Chemistry, Physics, Geopolitics, Socio-microeconomics, History, Mathematics, Orientation, and Psychology. Students wear a school uniform and remain in one classroom all day long; teachers rotate rooms. Ecuador offers a big variety of activities and transportation is not a limitation since they can easily use the public system. Most schools have Football/Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball. The school year starts in September and ends in June. Graduation is not possible.
