SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

International students interested in studying Spanish should consider this unique opportunity to discover the Mexican culture. The Nacel academic program in Mexico gives them the opportunity to live with a family eager to share its way of life. And allow students to become members of the local community and school. Students are palced in Mexico city and surrounding areas, in private schools. The host family is recruited through the school. They are all middle class families who receive a small stipend, but they do not host for money; the

family expects the student to participate in their daily life and speak Spanish, making a new friend. In Mexico, students are at school from four to six hours a day. The usual timetable for secondary schools and high schools is from 8am to 2:30pm, from Monday through Friday.

Afternoons are dedicated to homework and extracurricular activities. One day orientation session will be imparted to the students on arrival: explanation on cultural differences and expectations of families, schools and Nacel, explanation on how to behave in Mexico City and safety measures will be provided to students.

 

SCHOOL SYSTEM

The Mexican school system is divided as follows: the “Pre-Escolar”, the “Primaria”, the “Secundaria” and the “Preparatoria”. International students take classes in a “Preparatoria” school. Students must choose one of four professional areas: Physical- Mathematics, Chemical-Biological, Economic-Administrative, or Humanities. All schools offer English courses, some of them offer French or Italian courses too. Courses are held in Spanish and

include Mathematics, Biology, History, Spanish Language and Literature, P.E., Art, Music, and Foreign Languages. The school year runs from the end of August to June. Graduation is not possible.
